There are over 100 museums in Paris, some of them quite unique, like the Musée de la Franc-Maçonnerie (16 rue Cadet, 9th). In France, the Grand-Orient is the oldest and most important Masonic brotherhood in continental Europe, created in 1728. The museum, first opened in 1889, is in a modern building that traces the history of freemasonry, showing the contribution of the lodges to the history of France, the origin of the symbols and rites, and the principles of Masonic initiation. Better than a Dan Brown novel! It’s reopening February 11th, and regular hours are Tues-Sat, 2-6pm, admission €6. http://www.godf.org/museefm/index.htm

Flying Machines on the Eiffel Tower

Early adventurers tried many attempts to create interesting flying machines. Australian tailor Franz Reichelt tried to create a parachute like overcoat which it’s wearer could gently land on the ground. On February 4th, 1912 from the first deck of the Eiffel Tower (which is 60 meters / 90 feet above street level) he went to demonstrate his invention. Unfortunately he didn’t succeed and media cameras recorded him falling to his doom!

See where he was buried, lived, died and had his last days, here in the "Dark Side of the City of Lights." This tour is currently under development and is only available as a private tour. The first directory to be written by dozens of the world’s leading paranormal investigators. Research notes, location background, first-hand accounts, interviews with leading paranormal researchers, and many anomalous photographs featuring ghostly manifestations comprise the hundreds of haunted listings in this directory.
